They say you are what you eat, but is this also true for everything we’re taking in? Does what we watch, read, see, hear, and even buy affect us not just on an emotional and psychological level but also spiritually? If so, can we change what we’re feeding ourselves to better “fill” our minds and nourish our spiritual health?

Part of being human is taking in stimuli from outside of ourselves – while some of this is out of our control, some is due to the choices we make. Just as we can make choices to better balance our physical diet and fill our bodies with nourishment, can we also do the same for our souls? Can we limit consuming “spiritual junk food” that might negatively impact our spiritual development and growth and instead cultivate spiritual habits that will help us to flourish? Can we even tell whether something really nourishes us or is filling us but not sustaining us, better taken in moderation – or maybe not at all? Avoiding an all-or-nothing approach, can we be more thoughtful not only about our own actions, but also about the role our communities, environment and the intangible materials we consume play in supporting our individual and collective spiritual health?

Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on what it looks like to feed the soul. Please join us for a lively discussion as we explore how tending to our spiritual health can be a step in the journey toward building spiritually robust communities.

“I beseech Thee, O my God...to nourish their souls with what Thou hast ordained for Thy loved ones on whom shall come no fear and who shall not be put to grief.” – Bahá’í Teachings
